Dr. Christian Morrison, a native of the remote northern Idaho backwoods, was homeschooled during his upbringing. After completing his LDS Mission in Las Vegas, Nevada, he returned to the city to earn his Bachelor of Sciences degree with a focus on Microbiology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Subsequently, he pursued his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in California. While he cherished his time in California, he was thrilled to relocate to his beloved state, Texas.
Dr. Asif Khan was raised in the metro Detroit area, and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, Dearborn. He then went on to earn his doctorate in podiatric medicine and surgery from California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA.
Dr. Khan returned to Michigan to complete his residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Beaumont Health, where he served as Chief Resident his final year of training. He then went on to complete a prestigious fellowship at Beaumont Health in Diabetic Limb Salvage and Wound Care.
Dr. Khan is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM). He also holds the Certificate of Added Qualification in Amputation Prevention and Wound Care issued by the ABPM. Dr. Khan's research has been published in multiple medical journals.
In his free time, Dr. Khan enjoys spending time with his wife and son. He loves calling Texas home and serving the greater Dallas community.
Questions about orthotics or your insurance come first for many people, and the front desk answers them by phone. Once you are ready, the online scheduler lets you choose a time yourself.
New patients can often get in the same day or the next. At that first visit, your podiatrist examines your feet and watches how you walk and stand to find what is driving the pain.
If custom orthotics are right for you, we take a mold or scan of your feet, then fit your finished pair and adjust it as needed at follow-up.
*** Please note eligibility for all treatments varies based on insurance and conditions. We will let you know exactly what you qualify for when we contact you. Appointment wait times also vary based on availability.
The answers below cover what people tend to wonder before booking an orthotics evaluation. Start with whichever one is holding you back.
Usually, yes: most patients are seen without one. If your plan or your foot problem calls for anything else first, our front office will sort that out with you when you call or book online.
In many cases, no. Same-day and next-day appointments often available. Heel or arch pain that has started to change your stride, or a new pressure area or sore on a diabetic foot, is a good reason to phone early.
Most major insurance accepted, including Medicare. We will verify your benefits and explain your options. Whether orthotics are covered turns on the terms of your plan and the medical need behind the prescription, and that check happens before you commit to anything.
Over-the-counter inserts are built on a standard shape meant to suit most feet. A custom pair is prescribed once your podiatrist has checked how you walk and examined your feet, which are then molded or scanned so the orthotics can be shaped to target the problem the exam uncovers. If you would rather put a question in writing, the Ask A Question form is open at any hour, and the phone line is there during office hours.
Custom orthotics at Lonestar Podiatry & Wound Care in Plano are prescription foot devices made from a mold or scan of your own feet, ordered by a board-certified podiatrist after an exam of how your feet are built and how you walk. Store inserts are made for an average foot, while a prescription orthotic starts from a podiatrist’s diagnosis.
At the evaluation, Dr. Christian Morrison or Dr. Asif Khan checks your foot structure, your gait, and the condition behind the pain, such as plantar fasciitis, flat feet, high arches, ball-of-foot pain, Achilles tendinitis, or shin splints. When a custom device is the right step, your feet are molded or scanned and the orthotics are made to that prescription, as rigid, semi-rigid, or soft accommodative devices, or as sports, dress shoe, or children’s pairs. Your podiatrist fits the finished orthotics and adjusts them as needed afterward.
For patients with diabetes, custom orthotics are commonly recommended to reduce pressure points, and here they are prescribed by podiatrists credentialed in amputation prevention and wound care, including a fellowship-trained limb salvage specialist, at a practice that also provides diabetic protective orthotics and diabetic shoes. If heel pain needs more than an orthotic, the same practice offers shockwave therapy for heel pain, laser treatment for pain and inflammation, and PRP as a regenerative option, with eligibility confirmed at your visit.
Lonestar Podiatry & Wound Care evaluates and fits custom orthotics at its East Plano / Murphy clinic, 412 Village Dr, Suite 300, Plano, TX 75094, close to Murphy, Wylie, Allen, Sachse, and surrounding Collin County, so you can get prescription orthotics without a drive into central Dallas. The practice’s second office, the Lake Pointe clinic at 6800 Heritage Pkwy, Suite 104, Rockwall, TX 75087, serves patients in Rowlett and Rockwall.
Most patients can book without a referral, and same-day and next-day appointments are often available. Coverage for custom orthotics depends on your insurance plan and the medical reason they are prescribed, so the office verifies your benefits before your appointment. The practice accepts most major insurance, including Medicare, and both the front office and the clinical team speak Spanish. To find out what your plan covers and book an orthotics evaluation at the East Plano / Murphy clinic, call (972) 643-8242 or schedule online.
