Frequently Asked Questions

Patients dealing with heel and arch pain often have questions about plantar fasciitis — what causes it, what treatment involves, and how soon they can expect relief.

Most patients do not need a referral to get started. The fastest way to find out is to call our office or request an appointment online — our team will guide you through the next steps based on your insurance and your specific condition.

Effective plantar fasciitis treatment goes beyond rest and stretching. At Lonestar Podiatry & Wound Care, our board-certified podiatrists identify the root cause of your heel pain and build a treatment plan around it. Depending on your condition, that may include shockwave therapy, PRP injections, laser treatment, custom orthotics, or other advanced options. The goal is long-term relief — not a temporary fix.

We work with most major insurance plans, including Medicare. Coverage can vary, so the best next step is to call us or submit an appointment request and our team will verify your benefits and walk you through your options.

Recovery time varies depending on how long you have had symptoms and how your body responds to treatment. Many patients begin to feel meaningful improvement within a few weeks of starting a targeted treatment plan. The sooner you get an accurate diagnosis and the right care, the faster your recovery tends to go. Give us a call and we can talk through what to expect based on your situation.

Plantar Fasciitis Treatment Serving Plano, Murphy, Allen, and Wylie

Plano is one of the most active and fastest-growing communities in North Texas, and it consistently generates strong demand for plantar fasciitis care. The city’s large professional workforce — many of whom sit at a desk during the day but spend evenings and weekends running, cycling, or playing recreational sports — is a common profile for patients who develop plantar fasciitis gradually and then find it suddenly affecting everything from their morning routine to their ability to stay active. Add to that Plano’s substantial population of adults between 40 and 64, the age range most commonly affected by this condition, and it becomes clear why heel pain is one of the most frequent reasons patients contact our office.

Lonestar Podiatry & Wound Care serves patients throughout Plano and the surrounding Collin County communities, including Murphy, Allen, Wylie, and Sachse. Our Murphy location at 412 Village Dr, Suite 300 sits in the heart of East Plano — close enough that most Plano patients reach us without fighting Dallas traffic. For patients on the south side of the metro, our Rockwall location on Heritage Parkway offers the same standard of care with expanded Thursday hours until 6 PM.

For patients in Plano looking for a board-certified plantar fasciitis specialist, Lonestar Podiatry & Wound Care offers direct access to two physicians — Dr. Christian Morrison and Dr. Asif Khan — both Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and both holding the Certificate of Added Qualification in Amputation Prevention and Wound Care. Dr. Khan’s fellowship training in Diabetic Limb Salvage and Wound Care at Beaumont Health reflects a depth of clinical training that extends well beyond routine podiatry, which means that even patients with straightforward heel pain benefit from a diagnostic process that leaves nothing overlooked. Our team has earned over 1,150 five-star Google reviews from patients across Plano, Rowlett, Rockwall, and the broader Dallas suburbs — a reflection of consistent outcomes and care that patients recommend to their families and neighbors.

Advanced Plantar Fasciitis Treatment in Plano — Beyond Stretches and Rest

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the plantar fascia, the thick band of connective tissue running along the bottom of the foot from the heel bone to the toes. When that tissue is overstressed — through repetitive impact, prolonged standing, poor arch support, or biomechanical issues like flat feet or overpronation — it develops small tears that trigger an inflammatory response. The result is the stabbing heel pain most patients describe first thing in the morning, when the fascia tightens overnight and is suddenly loaded again with the first steps out of bed.

Most patients who contact us for plantar fasciitis treatment in Plano have already spent weeks or months doing what they were told: resting, stretching, wearing better shoes, maybe trying a generic insole from the pharmacy. For some, that is enough. For patients who are still dealing with significant heel pain after conservative care, the reason is usually one of two things — either the underlying biomechanical cause was never properly identified, or the inflammation and tissue damage have progressed to the point where the body needs active intervention to heal.

What is the most effective treatment for plantar fasciitis that has not responded to rest and stretching? For patients with persistent or chronic plantar fasciitis, advanced treatments including extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), PRP injections, and laser therapy have strong clinical support and are the next line of care. Shockwave therapy delivers targeted acoustic energy directly to the inflamed tissue, stimulating the body’s natural healing response and reducing pain without surgery or significant recovery time. High-quality clinical evidence shows ESWT produces meaningful improvement in both pain and function for plantar fasciitis patients — and is considered by many specialists to be comparable in effectiveness to surgical intervention without the surgical risk. PRP injections use the patient’s own concentrated growth factors to accelerate tissue repair at the injury site. Custom orthotics address the biomechanical root cause — ensuring that once the tissue heals, the underlying stress pattern does not drive a recurrence.

At Lonestar Podiatry & Wound Care, our board-certified podiatrists evaluate each patient’s foot structure, gait mechanics, and symptom history before recommending a treatment path. The goal is not just pain relief for today — it is building a plan that resolves the condition and keeps it from coming back.
